South Carolina National Bank Notes

South Carolina National Bank Notes

South Carolina issued national bank notes from 97 banks in 58 different towns.  Ninety-five percent of South Carolina national bank notes can be bought for less than $500.  However the other five percent can be expensive.  The key to collecting national bank notes from South Carolina is by type and then by location. Between 1914 and 1920 many tiny one bank towns nationalized and issued national bank notes from just a few years.  Notes from these South Carolina towns will have a blue seal and a five digit charter number.  Towns like Charleston, Columbia,Greenville, and Spartanburg issued hundreds of thousands of national bank notes. As a rule, the bigger the city is, the less valuable their national bank notes will be. Of course like any Southern state, 1902 red seals and first charter national bank notes from South Carolina are almost always going to be worth at least several thousand dollars.
