Charter: 7743

Year Opened: 1905

It might be fair to call The First National Bank of Elko the forgotten bank of the pre-1908 era of banking in Nevada. It doesn’t have a tale of quick riches and lost fortunes. It is not a romanticized ghost town and for the most part it is not a rare issuer of bank notes.

The First National Bank of Elko was one of three banks to make it past the currency issuing period. It was bought by The First National Bank of Reno in 1936. In 1905 it took over the banking business of The Eureka County Bank which had a branch in Elko.

It was the only bank in Elko County. All in all it was certainly one of the more successful national banks in the state.

First President: Oscar J. Smith
First Cashier: R.H. Mallett

Other people associated with the bank: George Wingfield, J. T. Wright, A. E. Kimbrall, J.A. Sewell, E.E. Ennor, C.F. Williams, E.E. Ennor, C.A. Sewell
