The First National Bank of Ely could just as easily be called The First National Bank of White Pine County. It was the first of four national banks to be chartered there. The First National Bank of Ely was chartered some twenty-eight years after the town itself was chartered. When one thinks of banking in White Pine County the word copper should come to mind.

The First National Bank of Ely was by far the most prolific note issuer in the county.
